Community resources for working parents

Posted April 2, 2020

Employees have been asked to stay at home and work safe during the COVID-19 health emergency in order to prevent community spread of the virus and flatten the curve. However, for employees of essential businesses, that may not be an option.

Employees of essential businesses who must continue to work may need assistance with child care. Organizations like The Best Place for Kids™ are stepping up to help. The Find! online tool helps parents locate child care providers in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Child care is 100% parent-paid, but new resources to help pay for child care for essential workers who income-qualify are on the horizon.

Visit their website to sign up to access the FIND! Child Care tool as well as information on how The Best Place for Kids™ is supporting working parents and/or guardians.

For hospitals or health care groups that include multiple sites, Child Care Associates (CCA) is available to help identify multiple licensed child care facilities that are open and have space. CCA can do a search and provide a map of child care facilities available. Contact Dorice Ramsey for more information.

Child care facilities guidelines

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has issued new guidelines for child care facilities to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These guidelines are available on the Texas Health and Human Services website. Parents and/or guardians can check to make sure the child care option they choose adheres to the required health and safety guidelines.

Free evening meals for kids

Evening meals for children are available at 17 of the city’s community centers. This program is made possible through a partnership between the city’s Park & Recreation Department, Neighborhood Services Department, Food for Good and Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Participation is simple, and recipients do not need to be a member of the community center or after-school program to participate. However, children must be present in the vehicle when meals are picked up.

  • Meals are available 3:30-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, while supplies last.
