Hiroshima Peace Bell was built in 1964 as a symbol for a spiritual and cultural movement that aims to create a world without nuclear weapons and wars.

Fort Worth Sister Cities is participating in Ringing for Peace, commemorating the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Communities all over the United States and Japan will ring bells to recognize 75 years of peace between the two nations.

The ringing will take place at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 5 and 9:02 p.m. Aug. 8. The dates and times match the time of the bombings, Japan time.

Fort Worth churches are being asked to ring their bells, and hand bell choirs can practice social distancing while ringing. Residents are asked to stand on their porches and ring a bell, even if it’s a cowbell.

Make a video of yourself or your family ringing a bell and saying, “I am ringing this bell for peace for all.” Post the video to social media with the hashtag #usjapanbells and tag Fort Worth Sister Cities.

To learn more about the commemoration, email Sister Cities.
