Residents in the Stratford Park area spent a Saturday clearing brush in their neighborhood park.

Eastside neighborhoods West Meadowbrook, Handley and Ryanwood joined forces with the city’s Park & Recreation Department to clear overgrowth and dense vegetation in hopes of discouraging illegal activity in Stratford Park, 4057 Meadowbrook Drive.

Concerned with ongoing issues in the park, illegal activities, litter and overgrown brush, the neighborhoods reached out to District 8 Councilmember Kelly Allen Gray, who led them to the Park & Recreation Department for help.

The parks department met with West Meadowbrook resident Denise Boyce to discuss assistance with removing the overgrown brush. “Ms. Boyce had told us she could round up some volunteers to help clear the debris and trash,” said Michael Tovar, Park & Recreation district superintendent. “And true to her word, she did!”

Volunteers spent a Saturday sweating, social distancing and clearing piles of overgrowth cut down by the parks team.

After all of their hard work, volunteers uncovered a hidden path that had been covered in brush. The trails at Stratford Park connect to the Tandy Hills Natural Area, 3325 View St.

Though COVID-19 may be halting many normal volunteer activities, residents can still join in on cleaning up their own neighborhood parks. Contact Keep Fort Worth Beautiful for more information on litter pickup supplies and other beautification programs.
