Fort Worth ISD’s After School program has been awarded $195,000 by the Fort Worth Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) for after-school programming at Arlington Heights, Polytechnic, Southwest and South Hills high schools as well as the International Newcomer Academy and Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

The CCPD provides revenue from a ½-cent sales tax dedicated to funding programs aimed at reducing and preventing crime in Fort Worth. The district was established in 1995 and in July was approved by voters for an additional 10 years.

With the new funding, the Fort Worth After School sites have increased to 70, making it one of the largest structured after-school enrichment programs in the nation.

Virtual programming will take place each day starting Sept. 21. Students will choose age-appropriate programming, including performing arts (drums, modern dance, Brazilian dance, among others) coding classes, literacy (poetry slam, publishing their own book), mindfulness, yoga, meditation (in association with Blue Zones Project), wellness and health nutrition (Common Threads), college exploration, and sports (speed and quickness training, quarterback school, etc.).

Fort Worth After School also offers Tele-Teacher live teachers who provide academic support at the elementary and middle school level. This will be an option for participants for the first two weeks. Tele-Teachers will be available 6-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday each week and 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
