Office of the Police Oversight Monitor

The City of Fort Worth's Office of the Police Oversight Monitor was first established in February 2020 pursuant to Fort Worth City Code Art. 2, § 2-27(1)(a) as a mechanism with which to provide oversight and accountability of the Fort Worth Police Department. Efforts to build this newly-created office first began in mid-March 2020. The office serves a proactive leader in law enforcement accountability to the Fort Worth Police Department and the population it serves.

Bonycle Sokunbi

Director, Office of Police Oversight Monitor (OPOM)

Sokunbi grew up calling Air Force bases all over the world home, from Italy to Oklahoma and has learned how to build meaningful connections with her community.

Sokunbi received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and attended law school and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law. Sokunbi joined the Office of the Independent Police Monitor in New Orleans in 2018 as executive director of community relations in 2018. Later, she oversaw the Use of Force Department and the Misconduct and Complaints Department along with serving as the chief of staff for the office. Sokunbi has been the Director of OPOM since September 2023.
