Share holiday fun at camps, special programs this season
Posted Dec. 5, 2012
Fort Worth community centers are bringing good tidings to parents this holiday season: School Break Camps.
“Our school break camps are about providing a safe place for kids to play and learn while schools are closed and parents return to work,” said Felicia Johnson, Southside Community Center Supervisor.
All community centers will host School Break Camps Dec. 26-28 and 31, and Jan. 2-4 and 7.
For parents looking for activities they can do with their children, check out these holiday events at city attractions:
Dec. 1-31: Holiday Photo Opportunities; Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Bring the family and the camera to the Botanic Garden Center during normal operating hours for holiday photo opportunities. Displays in the hallways and the nature scenes of the garden offer parents great images to mark the end of 2012.
Dec. 15: Holidays at the Hearth; Log Cabin Village
Enjoy holiday music, string popcorn and cranberries, spin the dreidel, make a variety of crafts, including pomander balls, paper chains, embossed cards and ornaments. Also, get a picture with the village’s historic St. Nick ($5 fee for photo and folder). No reservations required. Cost is regular Village admission plus a $2 craft fee to make a punched tin ornament.
Dec. 26 & 28: Bison Feeding Hayride; Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge
10-11:30 a.m., 1-2:30 p.m.
Take an old-fashioned hayride to the bison range and get up close and personal with these living legends of the prairie. The ride includes a trip to the hay barn to teach about bison management practices. Pre-registration required and rides are limited to 25 people per ride. Cost is $16 per person ($8 for members) and includes admission into the center. Children under 3 years old are free when sitting on an adult’s lap.
