Community center membership shrinks waists, not budgets
Posted Dec. 5, 2012

Holiday calories and gym costs quickly add up, but giving a membership to a neighborhood community center helps loved ones get a healthy start for the new year.
Centers keep pace with the variety of exercise options their communities want by providing one-size-fits-all memberships. A membership includes access to fitness and weight centers, programs and sports leagues for youth, adults and seniors.
“Our members have really enjoyed the variety of programming choices that a community center membership offers. It is one package with so many options to fit their needs,” said Arturo Mercado, Eugene McCray community center supervisor. Eugene McCray offers youth sports and adult programs from belly dance to personal training to volleyball.
Memberships are required for all community center use, including fitness and weight centers, programs, classes, sports leagues and open play.
Each of the 19 centers accept memberships purchased from any location.
“We strongly encourage a healthy life style for our members,” said Mercado. “A membership is a great start in the right direction.”
