Selected Action Plan Initiatives
Material and Resource Conservation
Paper Reduction
- Encourage customers to view/pay municipal bills electronically
- Provide pay stubs electronically (website or e-mail)
Energy Conservation
- Remove personal heaters and refrigerators from individual work space
Water Conservation
- Install low flow plumbing fixtures at high demand City facilities*
City Facilities
New Construction
- Adopt a policy requiring new City buildings to be LEED Silver or better certified when the certification cost does not exceed 5% of the
construction cost. - Promote use of alternative energy sources
Existing Facilities
- Obtain LEED EB Silver certification or better on major renovations when the cost of certification does not exceed 5% of the construction
cost. - Expand the availability of "T" stops at city facilities
- Promote the use of alternative energy sources*
- Install cool or green roof at City facilities as they are renovated
Policy Issues
- Create a Facilities Master Plan
Infrastructure and Amenities
Capital Improvement Plan tied to Comprehensive Plan
- Prioritize projects in the Capital Improvement Plan in accordance with future land use policies
Parks and Community Facilities
- Install best practices demonstration sites in each Council district*
- Establish education programming at community center and libraries provided by non-profits partners
Transportation
- Revise street design standards to allow for narrower paving width, bio-retention and pervious pavement where feasible
Pedestrian Connectivity
- Prioritize construction of sidewalk and multi-modal trails
Fleet Management
Fuel Choice and Efficiency
- Increase the number of hybrid vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles and high mpg vehicles purchased
Policy Issues
- Incorporate existing "Clean Fleet" policy into City regulations
Purchasing
- Establish a "Sustainable Purchasing" policy and incorporate into City regulations
- Purchase a percentage of the City's power from renewable energy source
