Golden Triangle Boulevard

Updated Feb. 13, 2013

Fort Worth voters approved $7.3 million in 2004 for improvements to Golden Triangle Boulevard from I-35 to U.S. 377. At that time, funding only allowed for a four-lane rural roadway (asphalt road and ditches). In addition to the City’s funding, Tarrant County voters in 2006 approved a $200 million road package, which includes a matching $7.3 million for Golden Triangle Boulevard. An additional $11 million in federal transportation grant money was secured for this project.

Plans call for Golden Triangle Boulevard to be constructed as a four-lane concrete road with curbs, gutters and storm drain system, raised median, traffic signals and left and right turn lanes. The Texas Department of Transportation administers the construction contract, and more information is available through the TxDOT website.

Current Progress

The reconstruction of the southern portion of the road (blue, from Old Denton Road to U.S. 377) continues. Drainage is being installed and the soil and roadbed continue to be prepared for concrete paving. Construction continues on the southern portion of the Bear Creek bridge, and bridge beams will be installed this month.

Between I-35W and Old Denton Road, construction of the eastbound lanes (red) is near completion. This section of roadway will be switched after the installation of a temporary signal at the Old Denton Road and Golden Triangle intersection and the striping of the new pavement. Depending on weather and utility work, the temporary signal should be installed by the end of August or the beginning of September. TxDOT is working with its partners to complete this as early as possible.

Construction began on the Golden Triangle Boulevard project in the fall of 2010, and completion is estimated for early 2013. The $19 million project will build a 3.4 mile, four-lane divided roadway with raised, grass medians. As traffic volumes grow, the city and county have the option of adding two additional lanes in the center median in the future.
