Adopt-A-School Program
Spanish
For over a decade, the Fort Worth Water Department has actively participated in the Adopt-A-School program with the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD). The Water Department’s adopted school is Glen Park Elementary, located in southeast Fort Worth.
The purpose of this program is to engage businesses, community organizations and faith-based organizations in strategic activities with schools to improve student achievement.
Activities and programs are planned to support the goals of the school and to positively influence academic achievement. We currently participate in the pen pal program, school supply drive, attendance incentive program, spelling bee, science judging competition and in 2006 we implemented an initiative to assist with uniforms.
There are over 240 Adopt-A-School partners that make up approximately 270 partnerships with schools. Partners support student achievement by their sharing of business/community
resources, perspectives and innovative ideas. The devotion of Adopt-A-School partners positively affects the lives of Fort Worth ISD students, teachers and families. In recent years, the pen pal program has been extended to other city departments that aren't active in an adopt-a-school program.
Employees participate on a voluntary basis, giving their time and resources to support the program. The Fort Worth Water Department is proud of its employees’ involvement and generosity to the adopt-a-school program.
