Downtown Water Distribution System Improvements
Current Construction Area
Overall Project Map
Project Schedule
The Fort Worth Water Department is replacing five blocks of water mains downtown as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the water distribution system. New 12-inch water lines will replace existing 8-inch lines, some of which may date back to the early 1900s.
The project encompasses replacing the water mains in Third Street between Throckmorton and Commerce streets and in Main and Houston Streets between Fourth and Third streets. Also, additional valves will be installed to minimize the areas impacted should a main break occur in the future.
Construction is expected to last until the end of June, with no construction occurring from April 14 to April 22 to accommodate Main Street Arts Festival. The project will impact traffic flow by having lane closures, but there will not be road closures. Construction hours will be from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There may be worked performed on some Saturdays in the event of weather delays, but this would cease by 3 p.m. The construction hours will be limited to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.for work done in Houston Street.
The Water Department has coordinated this project with Downtown Fort Worth Inc. and Sundance Square.
