City Elections

• Must be a United States citizen;
• Must be at least 21 years of age by May 13, 2025 (date of canvassing/first date of the term to be filled);
• Must be a qualified voter;
• Must have been a registered voter as of February 14, 2025 in the jurisdiction in which you are seeking election;

  • Texas Election Code § 13.143 states that your voter registration will become effective 30 days after it is received or on your 18^th birthday, whichever is later. Your registration must be effective on or before an election day in order to vote in that election.

• Must have resided continuously:
  • in the state for at least one year prior to the filing deadline (i.e., since at least February 14, 2024),

    and

  • in the Council District for which you are seeking election for at least 180 days before the first day of the filing period (i.e. since at least July 19, 2024);
• Must not have been determined mentally incapacitated by a final judgement of a court; and
• Must not have been finally convicted of a felony from which you have not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
