At Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, we are committed to the well-being of animals — whether they have permanent homes or are in need of a place to stay. We really saw that in action during the January snowstorm, when a gentle Siberian Husky was dropped off at our North Animal Campus.
Meanwhile, across the Metroplex, Iman Howard was grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Chanel. After losing Chanel, Howard embarked on a desperate search throughout northeast Dallas. She was told by neighbors that someone had taken her dog, but despite her best efforts and visits to various shelters, Howard couldn't locate Chanel.
By sheer coincidence, Howard came across a social media post from Fort Worth Animal Care & Control. The post featured a Siberian Husky named "Freya," and the dog’s resemblance to Chanel was striking. After comparing photos of the two dogs, Howard was convinced that Freya and Chanel were one and the same. She reached out to a supervisor at our North Animal Campus, and soon it became clear — the Husky was indeed Chanel.
However, Howard faced an obstacle: She didn’t have a working vehicle to make the trip from Dallas to Fort Worth to be reunited with her cherished pet. Recognizing the importance of this reunion, our dedicated animal control officers didn’t hesitate. They offered to personally drive Chanel to Howard’s home near Richardson, ensuring a safe and heartfelt return.
This act of kindness perfectly embodies the spirit of Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. It’s not just about providing shelter; it’s about going above and beyond to help people and pets. While this reunion was certainly unconventional, it highlights the true dedication of our staff to reunite families with their beloved pets — pets who, for many, are just like family.
We are grateful to our team and the community for their continued support, which enables us to make meaningful connections and create lasting bonds. This story is just one example of how our staff is always ready to put the needs of animals and their owners first.
