A Story of Love and Rescue: Mama’s Journey

Story of Mama

In early March, a sweet dog named Mama was struck by a car in Fort Worth. The compassionate team at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control quickly responded, finding her in pain under a food truck. Mama had a serious eye injury and needed help fast.

Right away, Mama was rushed to a FWACC facility, where she got pain relief and some much-needed comfort before being transferred to the Silcox Shelter for emergency surgery. The veterinary team had to remove her damaged eye, but they made sure she was on the road to recovery.

The very next day, FWACC received an email from a man experiencing homelessness—Mama’s owner. He had heard about the accident and was desperate to find her. In his message, he shared just how much she means to him, how she gives him hope every single day. Touched by their bond, FWACC knew they had to reunite them. While Mama was in our care, our medical team also offered to spay her, and her owner wholeheartedly agreed.

As soon as Mama was strong enough, the team made sure her reunion with her owner was nothing short of heartwarming. Since he didn’t have a way to come pick her up, FWACC personally delivered Mama to him—along with a special care package filled with a dog sleeping bag, harness, collar, leash, food, treats, blankets, and toys. They even sent her home with all the medications she needed to heal properly.

Thanks to the dedication of FWACC officers and veterinary staff, Mama is now exactly where she belongs—bringing happiness to the person who loves her most.

At FWACC, we believe every pet deserves compassion, no matter the circumstances. To support animals like Mama, consider donating or volunteering today.
