Fort Worth’s top dog retiring after more than a decade of service
Published on February 14, 2024
While every dog may indeed have its day, few can boast an impact like Henry, the official spokespup of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control. On Feb. 23, after 13 years of devoted service, Henry will be gracefully retiring from his role.
In 2011, Henry’s journey began when he was brought to the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Shelter in poor physical health. During a visit to the shelter, Code Compliance Director Brandon Bennett saw Henry and knew that more could be done. City staff dedicated themselves to Henry’s recovery, and over time, with tender loving care, he underwent a remarkable transformation. Bennett and Henry formed an inseparable bond and will be retiring together at the end of this month.
Functioning as a working dog with a compassionate spirit, Henry emerged as the recognizable face of the Fort Worth Animal Shelter. His tenure involved active participation in numerous special events, including accompanying former Mayor Betsy Price during visits to local elementary schools. Serving as the City’s canine ambassador, Henry tirelessly worked to increase awareness regarding the challenges faced by homeless pets.
A decade ago, in collaboration with a group of benevolent donors, Henry played a pivotal role in raising over $1 million for the construction of a new medical treatment ward at the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center. This facility, inaugurated in October 2014, significantly enhanced the shelter’s capacity to provide care for sick and injured animals, ultimately saving more lives.
Henry, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your years of service. You are, without a doubt, an exceptionally good boy.
