FWACC staff member spotlight: Kaylin-Noel Diaz
Published on April 09, 2024
Meet Kaylin-Noel Diaz, FWACC's new Social Media Specialist! She's taking the reigns as our division's first-ever SMS, sharing stories that align with message of care and compassion for all pets. We're so excited to have her on board!
Tell us a little about your background.
"I’m from California and moved here about a year ago to be closer to family. I went to UC Irvine and studied Biological Science and Political Science, yet somehow discovered a love for marketing! Right out of college, I worked for a golf company as a golf bag designer. I collaborated with hundreds of professional golfers and clothing brands to design some really, really cool products. It was life-changing to be able to have so much creative freedom, but even more life-changing to meet some very passionate and talented individuals along the way!"
What inspired you to work as FWACC's Social Media Specialist?
"For over seven years, I’ve worked in public relations and digital marketing. I was at a point in my life where I really wanted to use my marketing skills to support causes that mean a lot to me. I’ve avidly volunteered at animal shelters, homeless relief centers and children’s hospitals. When I saw this opportunity pop up, it sparked a lot of joy. I’m thankful to be doing something that I feel passionate about, and also to be surrounded by so many others that feel the same way."
What’s something you’re really loving about the job so far?
"I’ve really enjoyed learning about the different ways Animal Care & Control has a HUGE impact on the community’s safety, health and disease prevention. I studied biology and political science in college, so it’s been fascinating to learn about how community safety impacts policy and vice versa. It’s given me a deeper perspective on how important Animal Care & Control truly is. I’m so excited to help connect these pets and their families, and to really showcase what the City of Fort Worth has to offer."
Name three words to describe you.
"Sunny, kind-hearted and hardworking!"
You have lots of great ideas planned. Can you share some scoop on a couple of them?
"So far, every staff member I’ve met has showcased how much they care for our community and our shelter animals. I would love to highlight these caring individuals by telling their stories and experiences as Animal Control staff. I would also love to show more about the adoption and fostering process so residents can understand that our staff is there to assist them, every step of the way!"
Anything we'd be surprised to know about you?
"Something that may be surprising is that I’ve had some very interesting pets! My first pet was a millipede (imagine a 4-year-old child with a millipede as a pet). I’ve also had frogs, snakes, mice, turtles, bunnies, dogs and even a tarantula! All three of my dogs came from animal shelters, which is why I’m a huge advocate for pet adoption."
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
"I love to stay active and be outside! Before moving here, I’d camp and hike almost every weekend. I’ve had a lot of fun exploring the different natural areas that Texas has to offer. I also love weightlifting, Pilates, art museums and botanical gardens! I’ve had so much fun finding these activities in Fort Worth."
If you could be any animal for a day, which would you choose and why?
"I’d be a red panda! They’ve always fascinated me because they look like a combination between a bear, raccoon and fox. They’re nocturnal animals that live in the Himalayas, so I think it’d be cool to explore a massive forest through their eyes. Plus, they seem to be playful and curious, which would make for some pretty fun adventures!"
