Her plight made national headlines last week: A 10-year-old canine returned to the Fort Worth Animal Shelter following her adoption one year ago was now facing euthanasia. Star’s story was a heartbreaking one and doubtless left many a reader in tears.

And then her tale took a miraculous turn: Star was adopted and waiting for her new owner to arrive, who traveled all the way from Ohio to meet her new dog and bring her home.

To help amplify this amazing turn of events, ecstatic shelter staff posted the adoption story on their Facebook page last Friday.

Here’s where it gets even more cool: Alice Gibbs, the Newsweek writer, saw the post and published a follow-up story detailing the joyous news of Star’s adoption.

Code Assistant Director Chris McAllister and Code Superintendent Nia Odgers were both quoted in the story, as was Star’s new owner.

The fact that November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month makes it all the more merry!
