Any firm, business, individual or organization obtaining a permit related to the building, mechanical, plumbing or electrical provisions of the City of Fort Worth's Codes shall have on file in the Development Services Department a valid Contractor Registration signed by an official of the business with two exceptions:
- The property owners of single family residences when performing the work on their homestead property, meaning you own and live in the property.
- Owners of commercial property installing banners on their own property pursuant to Section C02.1 of the Fort Worth Sign Code.

Registration Types
Building Contractor
Building contractor registration applicants must provide the completed application and a copy of their valid driver's license.
Mechanical Contractor
Applicants for a Fort Worth Mechanical Contractor Registration shall hold a valid State of Texas air conditioning and refrigeration license with proper endorsements.
Electrical Contractor
Applicants for a Fort Worth Electrical Contractor Registration shall hold a valid State of Texas electrical contractor's license or State of Texas electrical sign contractor's license.
Plumbing Contractor
Applicants for a Fort Worth Plumbing Contractor Registration shall hold a valid State of Texas Master Plumber License or Texas Board of Irrigators License when required by the State of Texas or the City of Fort Worth Plumbing Code.
Sign Contractor
Applicants for a Fort Worth Sign Contractor Registration shall hold a valid State of Texas Master Electrical Sign Contractor's License in order to install illuminated signs. Non-illuminated signs may be installed by a registered sign contractor without a State license.
Parkway/ Utility Contractor
Commercial & Utility Requirement
To perform construction on the City of Fort Worth right-of-way, contractors must be license and bonded. The following fees and documents are required by the City of Fort Worth for Parkway registrations:
- Original $25,000 Parkway Contractors Bond with Power-of-attorney documentation.
- Original $10,000 Parkway Contractors Bond with Power-of- attorney documentation.
- Contractor Registrations application
- License fee of $500
- Certificate of Liability Insurance
- The Certificate must name the City of Fort Worth as an additional insured.
- Utility Contractors must provide $10 million umbrella coverage
Residential Requirements
- Contractor Registration application
- License fee of $500
- Certificate of Liability Insurance
- The Certificate must name the City of Fort Wort as an additional insured.
Moving or Structure Demolition Contractor
Each business will have one registered official. The applicant is required to provide a valid driver's license and liability insurance.
Annual Registration Fees
All individuals or businesses registering under this code shall pay fees as prescribed in this section.
- Building, Plumbing Irrigators, Sign, Moving, & Wrecking Contractors: $150
- Parkway and Utility Contractors: $500
- Change of Master or Registered Official: $60
Expiration and Renewal of Contractor Registration
The Contractor Registration, unless revoked or suspended, shall expire one year from the date of issuance. Contractor Registrations which have expired shall be charged a renewal fee. The term of the renewed Contractor Registration shall be one year from the date of reissuance.
