About the department

The Diversity & Inclusion department promotes community-wide values of inclusion and access as they apply to the City’s provision of municipal services, capital investments, and city resources; business opportunity support and development; civil rights enforcement; the City’s employee and labor relations; and the quality of life that ALL Fort Worth residents experience. The department fulfills this mission by enforcing civil rights laws as they pertain to fair housing, fair employment, and equal access to public accommodations; by raising public awareness of Fort Worth's diverse cultures and their contributions to the community's social and economic vitality; by fostering harmonious human relations among Fort Worth residents; and by coordinating efforts to eliminate racial, ethnic, and gender disparities in criminal justice, economic development, education, governance, health, housing, and transportation as identified in the 2018 final report of the Task Force on Race and Culture.

To help achieve these goals, the department provides staff support to the city council-appointed Human Relations Commission (HRC), the Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities and the Business Equity Advisory Board, as well as an employee diversity and inclusion committee. Additionally, the Civil Rights Enforcement Assistant Director also serves as the city’s liaison to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
