Although only 1.9 square miles in size, the city of River Oaks exemplifies the grit and perseverance of its residents. The city, geographically in the shadow of Fort Worth, has thrived because of the ongoing resilient, pioneering spirit of the people who call River Oaks home. Many of the original families still have descendants living in the city whose streets bear their names.
Join writers Darren Houk and Mark A. Nobles as they discuss their book chronicling the history of River Oaks. A Q&A and book signing will follow their presentation. Participants may attend in person or via Zoom.

The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns and cities across the county. River Oaks is a recent addition to the series, focusing on the people who have made the city unique through photographs from archives and personal collections as well as interviews with longtime residents and historians.
Darren Houk is an entrepreneur and has served as mayor and on the city council of River Oaks. Mark A. Nobles is the author of the nonfiction book Fort Worth’s Rock & Roll Roots; and the novel We’re for Smoke. His novella Chalk Mountainis slated to be published this year.
