About the musician

Photo of guitarist playing music Darrin Kobetich grew up listening to a lot of music from his dad's record collection, which included music from Chuck Berry to Bluegrass to The Ventures to Zorba The Greek and everything in between. His own musical journey started out at age 12 with four chords he learned from his father. Born in 1965 in Long Island, N.Y., in 1980 he moved to Weatherford, Texas, and formed his first real band a year later - an instrumental power trio. He spent a few years playing in various metal bands before joining New Orleans-born Hammer Witch in 1989. After that group disbanded in 1994, Darrin formed experimental metal band Amillion Pounds with his brother Adam. It was during that time Darrin composed his first acoustic songs, influenced by Jimmy Page and Leo Kottke. By 2002, he was completely immersed in acoustic guitar and inspired by the styles of Michael Hedges and John Fahey, as well as Middle Eastern and other world music.
