As a destination for discovery, your Fort Worth Public Library celebrates art in all forms.  We designed this program for all ages to enjoy.

About Ben Bohorquez

Ben Bohorquez is a saxophonist and composer known for his dynamic performances with Ben Bohorquez Quartet, The Funky Knuckles, and The Night Above Us. Originally from El Paso, his musical journey began early, shaped by a musically inclined family and formal training under Houston's Martin Langford. He later refined his craft at the University of North Texas, studying with mentors like Jim Riggs and Brad Leali, developing a deep appreciation for both the traditional roots and modern expressions of jazz. Since earning his degree in 2009, Ben has become a core member of The Funky Knuckles, a band that pushes the boundaries of jazz, funk, and fusion with a sound uniquely their own.

In 2019, he formed BbQ (Ben Bohorquez Quartet) to further explore improvisation and jazz expression, blending classic elements with contemporary influences. The Night Above Us is another key project which brings together like-minded musicians in a collaborative experience that fuses improvisation with earworm melodies and deep-pocket grooves and introspective soundscapes. Whether performing with The Funky Knuckles, Bb Quartet, or The Night Above Us, Ben approaches music with innovation and a deep sense of groove, always seeking fresh ways to push his sound forward.
