Summer Author Series heats up with something for everyone

From Bigfoot to the Moon, and many points in between, there’s something for everyone from the Fort Worth Public Library’s Author Series throughout July and August. The Author Series brings fiction and nonfiction authors from across the country to engage with our library patrons and enrich our city.

The Fort Worth Public Library offers regular author presentations - only virtually for now - as well as quarterly writing workshops in its growing role as the literary hub of Fort Worth. The presentations serve to inform, entertain and inspire avid readers and writers.

“For the summer, we’ve planned a diverse lineup of authors with the thought in mind that there is something for everyone,” said Jennifer Demas, Senior Librarian – Adult Services. “There are some picture-book authors that families with little ones can enjoy, to a trip to the moon with one of NASA’s first female flight controllers for older kids, a cryptozoologist – perfect for teens and adults, and some great adult nonfiction.”

Jennifer Keishin Armstrong visits on July 8 to discuss her book “When Women Invented Television: The Untold Story of the Female Powerhouses Who Pioneered the Way We Watch Today.” It’s a perfect event for those interested in the history of TV.

Kids, families and anyone interested in space is in for a treat on July 10 as they can “Tour the Moon with Author Marianne Dyson.” The presentation introduces kids to the Apollo Program with a mock tourist trip to the Moon while also covering the fascination with Earth’s only natural satellite.

Younger kids from PreK to second grade will enjoy Mark Huffman reading his books “The Toot Fairy” and “Cheesemaker Durdsden” on July 17, and Autumn Radle doing the same with “Lila Grey, Let Go of the Day!” on July 22.

“Texas Bigfoot: History, Legends, & Modern Sightings” stomps into town July 29. Lyle Blackburn guides us through Texas’ rich history of dramatic encounters with hairy, ape-like creatures by incorporating his books “The Beast of Boggy Creek: The True Story of the Fouke Monster” and “Beyond Boggy Creek: In Search of the Southern Sasquatch.”

The books throughout the series will be available locally at outlets such as Monkey and Dog Books, and The Dock. Many are also available to be checked out from the Library.
