Among the more than 4 million items checked out from the Fort Worth Public Library in fiscal year 2024, some books rose to the top to become the most popular reads.
Engaging the younger set
For young readers, happiness was a warm hug from a furry friend; enjoying a classic story involving a favorite feline; diving into the 18th book about a wimp’s tribulations; looking back to a prehistoric tale involving treehouse-loving siblings; and being shocked by a surprise from a pink-loving girl’s foster cat.
Grabbing teens’ attention Teenagers were drawn to the sixth novel in a Greek mythology-based series; followed the story of two young rival journalists who find a magical love connection; stepped into a side story of Greek-Roman lore; explored manga that pairs groups of aspiring heroes with pro heroes who work missions together; and spent time with the fourth tale of a fortune-fueled family in the Inheritance Games trilogy.
What the grownups read
Adults checked out a novel of historical fiction highlighting women who served in the Vietnam war; were enthralled by a new installment in the Women’s Murder Club stories; stumbled into the tangle of lies a devious protagonist creates for a mysterious job; were fascinated by a tell-all memoir from a 1990s pop icon; and experienced a seafaring tale of shipwreck, mutiny and murder.
