Writing Workshop: Face fears to foster new ideas for writing projects
Published on November 09, 2021
Halloween was last month, but author and writing coach Dana De Greff wants to help you scare up new writing ideas by embracing your fears.
She will offer tips and answer questions during a free, virtual Writer’s Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, hosted via Zoom by the Fort Worth Public Library.
Most, if not all, people have fears - of failure, of family, of events from their past. For writers, the truth is that what we fear the most is oftentimes exactly what we need to put down on paper. Through prompts, readings, and discussion, De Greff will guide you in naming, releasing, and using your fears to generate ideas for new work.
De Greff earned a Masters in Fine Arts in fiction from the University of Miami and has taught Creative Writing classes at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Miami, The Loft Literary Center, and Books & Books. She is the founder and executive director of PageSlayers, a nonprofit that has conducted free writing workshops for children in Opa-locka, Fla.
She is the author of “Alterations,” a collection of poems, and is in the process of writing a novel titled “Everyday Mysticism.” Her work has appeared in Cosmonauts Avenue, Jabberwock Review, PANK, Origins Journal, Philadelphia Stories, and Gulf Stream Magazine, among others. She has received awards numerous awards for her writing.
De Greff’s session will be the fifth installment in the Library’s quarterly Writer’s Workshop Series. Previous installments are available to watch via YouTube:
