The Fort Worth Municipal Court was established by the Fort Worth City Council in the City Charter of 1924. The Fort Worth Municipal Court is a Court of Record whose purpose is to do justice while providing equal protection in the due process of law. The Court has jurisdiction within the City of Fort Worth's territorial limits over all Class C misdemeanor criminal cases brought under City ordinances and the Texas Penal Code. These cases are punishable by fine only. The Court also processes civil parking cases filed within the territorial limits of the City of Fort Worth.
The Department is divided into four divisions: Administration, Clerk of the Court, Judicial, and City Marshal.

The Clerk of the Court Division is responsible for filing of citations, case preparation, the setting of court dockets, fine collections, administering the collection enforcement program, warrant production, management of the city’s jury system, processing civil parking citations, and performing other court-related, non-judicial activities.
The Judicial Division of the Municipal Court is comprised of ten full-time and eight pro tem judges. We strive to provide equal protection and due process of law. Our primary goal is to do justice for all who appear in our court on behalf of the citizens of our fair city.
Among their many duties, Fort Worth Marshals apprehend fugitives from justice, execute civil and criminal processes, protect the municipal judiciary, provide building security for the City of Fort Worth downtown campus, and operate a lake patrol unit.
