The City of Fort Worth recognizes the sacrifices made by Texas veterans and their families. To honor their service and ensure they receive the support they deserve, we offer programs for veterans that provide crucial one-time financial assistance for rent, mortgage and utilities, helping to prevent homelessness and stabilize the lives of our veterans and their families.
Our veteran programs are funded by grants from the Texas Veterans Commission. In addition to the programs managed by the Neighborhood Services Department's Community Action Partners, other programs are available throughout Tarrant County to support veterans and their families.
Open to veterans, military who are on active duty, and surviving spouses.
• Rent, mortgage, and utility payments to prevent Texas veterans and their families from becoming homeless. • Preference will be given to discharged veterans versus active duty; if funds are running out, we will serve veterans first.
The Healthy Homes for Heroes Program helps Fort Worth homeowners in need of emergency or mechanical system home repairs. Repairs are limited to once every 12 months based on eligibility.
Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Commissioner Chuck Wright presented the City of Fort Worth with a check for $300,000 on Sept. 26, 2024, to assist veterans and their families by providing essential services to help them transition to civilian life and enhance their well-being. Additionally, these funds will support home modifications, mental health programs, homeless veteran services and more. Neighborhood Services Director Kacey Bess and City of Fort Worth Veteran Affairs Officer Joaquin Castillo proudly accepted the checks from TVC. TVC awarded $4.2 million in grants to 15 North Texas organizations, which are estimated to serve approximately 3,900 #TexasVeterans and their families.
