Preventing Homelessness for Our Heroes
The City of Fort Worth recognizes the sacrifices made by Texas veterans and their families. To honor their service and ensure they receive the support they deserve, we are proud to introduce our Forward Home Initiative. This program provides crucial one-time financial assistance for rent, mortgage, and utilities, helping to prevent homelessness and stabilize the lives of our veterans and their families.
These programs are funded by grants from the Texas Veterans Commission. In addition to the programs managed by the City’s Neighborhood Services Department Community Action Partners, there are other programs available throughout Tarrant County to support veterans and their families. Below are just some of the programs available to veterans:

Texas Veterans Commission Awards $300,000 to Fort Worth for Veteran Support Services, Part of $4.2 Million in Regional Grants
Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Commissioner Chuck Wright presented the City of Fort Worth with a check for $300,000 on September 26, 2024, to assist veterans and their families by providing essential services to help them transition to civilian life and enhance their well-being. Additionally, these funds will support home modifications, mental health programs, homeless veteran services, and more. Neighborhood Services Director Kacey Bess and City of Fort Worth Veteran Affairs Officer Joaquin Castillo proudly accepted the checks from TVC.
TVC awarded $4.2 million in grants to 15 North Texas organizations, which are estimated to serve approximately 3,900 #TexasVeterans and their families.
Forward Home Program
This program helps veterans, surviving spouses and their families by providing them with one-time rental/mortgage and utility payments to prevent homelessness.
- One-Time Rent Payments: Immediate financial aid to cover overdue rent, ensuring veterans and their families can remain in their homes.
- Mortgage Assistance: Support to manage mortgage payments, protecting homeownership for those who have served our nation.
- Utility Bill Coverage: Assistance with utility bills, ensuring essential services remain uninterrupted for veteran households.
