Cobblestone Trail Park, was originally known as John T. White Park for its proximity to the street of the same name. The 22.5 acres for this park acquired in 1971 remained undeveloped, in part, because of the lack of development in the area. In 1985 and 1987, additional parcels were acquired from new subdivisions adjacent to the park, giving it 23.8 acres. Improvements were made to the park in 1988 through Capital Improvement Project (CIP) funds. The improvements included site clearing and grading, installation of sidewalk, roadway, and parking lot, a playground and picnic tables, a softball backstop and goals, and grass seeding.
Residents of the Cobblestone Square Additions discussed with City staff their interest in renaming the park in 1987. After that, residents of that addition and Sandy Ridge Estates Addition held a “name the park” contest and the winning name was “Cobblestone Creek Park”. Staff recommended that the name be “Cobblestone Trail Park” because the “creek” in the park is actually a channelized drainage swell. On July 12, 1988, City Council approved the name change.
In 2006-07, Cobblestone Trail Park playground received renovations performed under the Park & Recreation Departments Small Capital Projects Crew Work Plan. In early 2009, the City Council accepted the dedication of an addition of 0.51 acres and facility improvements from Lowery Park, L.P. The developer provided two benches, one picnic table with grill, and approximately 200 feet of connector trail at a cost of $7,919.85.
