Fun Facts and History

Como Park is in the historic Black community of Como which was established in the early 20th century on the west side of Fort Worth. The property was acquired in 1973 and the Como Community Center, designed by Wooten and Bogart, was added circa 1978. The center offered after-school programs and was the only center to have a track and field team. Youngsters at the center also participated in baseball and cheerleading leagues. The center partnered with the Tarrant Area Food Bank’s Kids’ Café and Mobile Pantry and was a Community Action Partners (CAP) site. The 1.2-acre site received new playground equipment and three benches in 2006.

A new Como Community Center opened at 4660 Horne St. in 2020 within Chamberlin Park just 0.4 miles north of Como Park. The old community center was demolished and the site was renamed Como Park in 2021. It has a playground, basketball and tennis courts, benches, an electrical box, park lighting, a parking lot, a stand alone swing, and tables.
