Park History

Diamond Hill Park is in the historic north side community of the same name which was annexed into Fort Worth in 1922. The park was acquired in 1967 and contains approximately 10 acres. It has a shelter, restrooms, playground, grills, trail, baseball diamond, and tennis courts. Playground renovations including site/equipment demolition, site grading and installation of new playground equipment, and other amenities were approved in 2005.

Also within the park is Diamond Hill Community Center (1701 N.E. 36th Street). The original center was designed by Lawrence White and opened shortly after the park was acquired. It received an addition in 1998 that was designed by Robert S. Bradley, AIA, and constructed by American General Supplies, Inc. The center became an essential part of the community. In addition to general recreational opportunities, it also offered an after-school program.

The 2018 bond program allocated $9.9 million for the construction of a new community center. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility was held on September 24, 2021. At 25,000 square feet, the new building, designed by GFF Architects, is nearly 50% larger than the old building. In addition to a gymnasium and fitness center, it will also have a boxing gym, teaching kitchen, meeting spaces, game room, and computer lab. A grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission supplemented the bond funds. The old building will be demolished after the completion of the new one which is expected to open in 2023. A public art piece titled “Rising Strong” will complement the new building. It was created by artist Elizabeth Akamatsu and selected by the Fort Worth Public Art Commission with input from the community.
