Fun facts and History

J. Merida Ellis donated the land for this 10.5-acre park in southeast Fort Worth in 1971. It was a reserve park for many years. Private funds were donated by a developer in the late 1990s for upgrades that were finished around the year 2000.The Ellis family were early residents of this section of Fort Worth. Ellis Lake, a private recreational lake from the early 20th century, was in the vicinity of East Berry Street and South Riverside Drive. It was drained in the late 1950s for the construction of the Southgate Shopping Center.
