Fun facts

Eugene McCray Community Center is located within Eugene McCray Community Center Park. The Community Center opened on February 22, 2002. Its namesake was a retired insurance executive and city councilman. McCray fought for the creation of such a center to serve southeast Fort Worth neighborhoods such as Stop Six and succeeded in getting $1.5 million dollars placed in the $120 million bond issue that passed in 1998. Unfortunately, McCray passed away in May 1998 and did not live to see the building’s completion. The site for the center was selected with input from community leaders in the area to be served by the center and acquired in 2000. The center was designed by Quorum Architects and constructed by Nue Tech Builders in 2001.
