Located in Linwood Addition, First Flight Park commemorates the location where French pilot Roland G. Garros took the controls of a Bleriot monoplane to perform the first flight originating on Fort Worth soil. The historic flight occurred on January 11, 1911 and was witnessed by thousands of spectators gathered at a racetrack near today's Montgomery Plaza off West Seventh Street known at that time as the "Fort Worth Driving Park". First Flight Park displays a full-sized replica of a Bleriot XI almost nine feet long with a wingspan of 25 feet. A Texas historical marker commemorating the flight and the park were dedicated on January 11, 2015 - 104 years after an airplanes first flight in Fort Worth.
