Highland Hills Addition was developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in southeast Fort Worth. In 1968, the city acquired approximately 28 acres to serve as a park for the neighborhood. By 1971, residents were urging the Fort Worth Park and Recreation Board to provide improvements for the park but financial woes prevented the board from moving at the pace desired by the public. In 1990, the Highland Hills Community Center opened in the park. The center offers after-school and sports programs. The park includes a shelter, restrooms, playground, grills, trails, tennis and volleyball courts. On Sept. 27, 2022, the City Council approved the allocation of $1 million for Highland Hills Park from funds the City received through the American Rescue Plan Act. The funds are to be used for a parking reconstruction project.
