Fun Facts & History
This 18.6-acre linear park in south Fort Worth stretches between Woodway Drive on the west and McCart Avenue on the east. It was acquired in 1977 through a donation of 6.6 acres from Wedgewood Enterprises. It was originally known as Wedgewood Block 200. The developer provided $35,000 with the City making the improvements. The City was to refund that amount as soon as two of three tracts adjacent to the park were developed and occupancy permits issued for the same. A contract to this effect was approved by the City Council on April 5, 1976. The early improvements included landscaping, a play area, and a bicycle trail.
The Trailwood Land Company offered to donate to the City 17.75 acres of land in Wedgwood Addition Block 202. The Park and Recreation Advisory Board accepted the donation on July 5, 1977. Early improvements included landscaping and a playground. At the recommendation of Marshal Amis with Wedgwood Enterprises, the developer of the Wedgwood subdivision, the park was named in honor of the late Max Krauss and E.L. Baker, founders of Wedgwood Enterprises. The City Council approved the name change on March 6, 1979.
In 1984, Krauss Baker received improvements consisting of landscaping and irrigation. Playground improvements were also made around this time. An addition was made to the park in 1989 with the donation of a small tract of land from Irwin Krauss. In 1997, a lease was given to an adjacent business owner to construct a parking lot in the park that would serve both business and park patrons. The park contains a shelter, playground, grills, and trails. In 2006, Park & Recreation Department staff undertook several Small Capital Projects in city parks, including playground renovations at this park.
