Fun facts & History

The area containing Maddox Park was acquired by North Fort Worth in 1905 before that city was annexed into Fort Worth. In 1912, the Hill Crest Civic League, a women’s organization, requested that the park be named for J. H. Maddox and the board consented to do so in July of that year. Maddox had served Fort Worth as chief of police and as head of the fire department. He was the first chairman of the park board. The size of the park is less than one acre and for many years, it had a water tower in it.  Improvements over the years have included playground renovations in 2003 with funding from the U.S. Department of Interior Urban Park and Recreation Recovery grant funds and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Development Block Grant funds.
