Fun facts & History

Marine Creek Lake was created by the Tarrant County Water Control and Improvement District Number One as part of the flood control system protecting North Fort Worth. In 1981, the City Council accepted the donation of a 69.97 scenic tract adjacent to Marine Creek Lake from the Marion Sansom Company for use as a public park. The tract of land was located along the southwest shore of Marine Creek Lake. The Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department had long recognized the recreation potential of land adjacent to the lake. This donation would serve to meet the park needs of proposed residential development around the lake.

The park was undeveloped for a number of years and became victim to loitering. In 1994, City Council authorized a lease to use the parkland for grazing with revenue generated from the leasing placed in the City’s General Fund.
