Fun facts & History

Mary and Marvin Leonard Park is located on Block 22 of the Ridgmar Addition. The Leonards, developers of Ridgmar, had reserved the block for a school to serve the neighborhood. A school was never built on the site and the block was used informally as a park. The park department officially acquired the site in 1983. It contains a playground, trails, and a backstop that predates the park  on 6.5 acres. Playground renovations including site/equipment demolition, site grading and installation of new playground equipment, and other amenities were approved in 2005.

Marvin Leonard (1895-1970) was a well-known businessman in Fort Worth. He and his brother, O. P., operated Leonard Brothers, a general retail and department store that grew into the largest retail business in Fort Worth. He had a passion for golf and also built Colonial Country Club and Shady Oaks Country Club. He had numerous real estate developments as well. His wife, Mary (1907-1995), was a prominent club woman and community volunteer.
