Located along the dam and north shores of Benbrook Lake, land for the Pecan Valley Park and Golf Course (originally called the Benbrook Golf Course) was acquired in 1962 through a lease with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the federal agency that operates Benbrook Lake. On October 2, 1963, the first 18 holes of the proposed 27-hole course opened to the public. The course was designed by golf course architect Ralph Plummer. This course is referred to as the “River” course. Another nine holes were opened for play in July 1964. The course was expanded during the 1981-1982 fiscal year when nine holes, referred to as the “Hills” course, were added, making it a 36-hole course. These improvements were a result of the 1981-1983 Capital Improvement Program. The “River” and “Hills” courses are separated by the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. A driving range is located close to the “Hills” course. The “River” course is considered to be one of the top municipal courses in Texas.
Funding from the 2022 Bond Program will allow for pond dredging and improved drainage at holes #4, #5, and #7.
Approximately 461.77 acres are devoted to the two golf courses. Adjacent parkland is known as Pecan Valley Park and contains approximately 190 acres. More about the parkland
In 2020, two Girl Scouts, Maddie Barber and Eliana Hernandez, created a pollinator garden in the park as part of their Silver Award project FB 7-15-20.
