South Meadows Park was acquired in 1998 as a reserve park. In 2006, 2004 Capital Improvement Program funds were used to provide improvements such as site grading, new playground facilities, and concrete walk.
Recreational highlights of the park include a 0.25 mile cement loop trail connecting the adjacent neighborhoods, a playground, pavilion, and practice sports fields.
The geology is Grayson Marl and Main Street Limestone of the Cretaceous. Grayson Marl consists of greenish-gray thinly interbedded limestone with nodular bits of shale, sand and fossiliferous material. The Main Street Limestone is hard, thin interbedded gray and white layers.
Sanger soils consists of very deep, well drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in clayey marine sediments.
The park is a neighborhood park that is regularly mowed, therefore, the diversity is low. There are several shade trees planted near the playground. Species observed via iNaturalist include southern annual saltmarsh aster and western honeybee.
