Summerfields Park is a neighborhood park adjacent to Parkview Elementary School in north Fort Worth.

History

Summerfields Park is north of Interstate 820N in a neighborhood developed in the 1970s. The 9.4-acre park was acquired in 1978 and is adjacent to the appropriately named Parkview Elementary School. Amenities include a playground, paved trail, backstop, bleachers, soccer and softball/baseball fields, bench, table, electrical box, trash receptacle, and restrooms.[1]

Recreation

This neighborhood park has a short trail to the playground and numerous sports fields.

Geology

The park is solely in the Pawpaw, Weno Limestone, Fort Worth Limestone, and Duck Creek geologic formations. Ammonites, echinoids, oysters and pectens are some of the fossils found in these bedrock stratas.  

Soils

Sanger soils cover the park and consist of very deep, well drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in clayey marine sediments. 

Ecology

Species diversity of this park is low. Species observed are typical generalist species including field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis), King Ranch bluestem (Bothriochloa ischaemum) - non-native species, turkey tangle frogfruit (Phyla nodiflora), and ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata). Birds include northern mockingbird, northern cardinal, and grackles.
