Fun facts
The majority of the park is a pond. The pond sits northwest of a larger pond, creating a chain of aquatic habitat. This creates a great opportunity for wildlife viewing.
History
On Oct. 26, 2004, the City Council accepted 6.73 acres of parkland and facility improvements from Sunset Hills Limited Partnership for the Sunset Hills Subdivision in north Fort Worth. This acreage provided a neighborhood park and trail link eastward, connecting to future Heritage Addition parkland. The overall park system runs southward through Heritage Addition, Heritage Glen, and to the Arcadia Park system. The developer provided improvements that consisted of a pond and trail as well as park benches.[1]

Recreation
This is a neighborhood park with a 0.25 mile paved trail on either side of a pond. The trail connects the surrounding neighborhoods and Sunset Hills North Park to Barksdale Park below the pond dam.
Geology
The park is solely in the Pawpaw, Weno Limestone, Fort Worth Limestone, and Duck Creek geologic formations. Ammonites, echinoids, oysters and pectens are some of the fossils found in the bedrock.
Soils
Sanger soils cover the park and consist of very deep, well drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in clayey marine sediments.
Ecology
The park is small and the majority of it is contained within the 1+ acre pond. The pond offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy aquatic life including some shoreline wetland plants, dragonflies, damselflies, turtles, frogs/toads and fish. Just below the dam lies a wetland area that is a slough on the north end of the Barksdale Park water feature. In this area, you may find shorebirds, waterfowl, and other wildlife that use wetlands for food and shelter.
