Fun facts

The greenbelt is evolving into a riparian corridor that will provide good bird-watching opportunities.

Recreation

This linear greenbelt park has a 0.5 mile cement trail that connects the surrounding neighborhood.

History

The park was donated through the Neighborhood & Community Park Dedication policy.

Geology

The park lies in the Pawpaw, Weno Limestone, Fort Worth Limestone, and Duck Creek geologic formations. This geology comprises mudstone and claystone laid down during the Early Cretaceous Period. Ammonites, echinoids, oysters and pectens are some of the fossils found in bedrock strata of these formations.

Soils

The Sanger and Slidell series consists of very deep, well drained soils formed in clayey marine sediments of the Cretaceous Period.

Ecology

The park is in the floodplain of a tributary in the Big Fossil Creek watershed. The greenbelt vegetation is comprised of riparian tree species such as cottonwood, willow, and sugar hackberry with mesquites in the uplands. Historically, this would have been a prairie stream with native grasses in uplands adjacent to the stream bank. Upland species are still present including big bluestem (Andropogon gerardi), indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) and green comet milkweed (Asclepias viridiflora).
