History

The park was dedicated by Fort Worth City Council in 2014. It was formerly ranchland dotted with mesquite. Sitting atop a small hill affords views of downtown Fort Worth and the grain mills in Saginaw.

Geology

The park is comprised of Early Cretaceous mudstone and claystone from the of Pawpaw, Weno Limestone, and Denton Clay formations.

Soils

The soil consists of the Purves series of clays and Aledo calcareous strata.

Ecology

The park was a former ranch with some topography of rolling hills. Dominant species were what would be found in grazed pastures including switchgrass, snow on the prairie, eryngo, American basketflower, gumweed, Texas wintergrass, and mesquite. The park is maintained for a small open lawn area by the playground. The interior of the park is a natural area with mesquite woods; where some resident and a few neotropical migratory birds may be found.
