1 in 4 children are food insecure and lack consistent access to enough food. Hungry children are more likely to have social and behavioral issues and face a more significant learning slide in summer that sets them back when they go to school in the fall.
The following Fort Worth Community Centers offer the Summer Food Service Program that is funded by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Meals will be available for free to children ages 1 to 18, and the child does not have to be enrolled in a program to qualify.
In the summer of 2021, 14,633 meals were served to children at 20 Community Center locations. The food is provided by CitySquare, a non-profit fighting the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy, and friendship. For the past 4 summers, the program has earned GOLD recognition from the Excellence in Summer Meals Campaign from the Texas Hunger Initiative, demonstrating their commitment to excellent service in our community.
