Two (2) Full-Time Youth Librarian positions are available with the Fort Worth Public Library at the Golden Triangle Library and the Northwest Library. The ideal candidates are customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing library services to young people in the community, and comfortable working with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree of Library Sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work at/travel to various locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience working in a library setting.
  • Previous experience developing and presenting programs for children, teens, caregivers/parents.
  • Ability to communicate with customers in Spanish.

The Youth Librarian job responsibilities include:

  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for children and teens and their parents/caregivers.
  • Building relationships with residents and community organizations; Promoting library programs.
  • Performing readers' advisory work; Researching and answering reference questions.
  • Developing displays to showcase the Library’s collections, programs, and special events.
  • Assisting customers with library technology; Teaching computer classes.
  • Collaborating with the system youth services team to develop and evaluate programming.
  • Serving as the Manager on Duty, when needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
