Stimulus payments are being distributed. How to ensure you get yours

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is committed to helping Americans get their Economic Impact Payment as soon as possible. The payments, also referred to by some as stimulus payments, are automatic for most taxpayers. No further action is needed by taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees.

See if you are eligible for an Economic Impact Payment.

Information for filers

If you filed an income tax return, use the Get My Payment application to:

  • Check your payment status.
  • Confirm payment type: direct deposit or check.
  • Enter bank account information for direct deposit if the IRS does not have direct deposit information and payment has not been sent yet.
  • If the IRS does not have direct deposit information from your 2018 or 2019 return – and payment hasn’t been sent yet– use the Get My Payment application to let IRS know where to send the direct deposit.
  • 2019 filers: IRS will send payment using the information provided with the 2019 tax return. You will not be able to change it.
  • 2018 filers: If you need to change your account information or mailing address, file your 2019 taxes electronically as soon as possible. That is the only way to let the IRS know your new information.

Information for non-filers

If you don’t file taxes, use the Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info Here application to provide simple information. Use this application if:

  • You did not file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return because your gross income was under $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples). This includes people who had no income.
  • Or you weren’t required to file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return for other reasons.

Do not use this application if you receive Social Security retirement, disability or survivor benefits, Railroad Retirement and Survivor Benefits. If you receive these benefits, the IRS already has your information and you will receive $1,200.

People in these groups who have qualifying children under age 17 can use this application to claim the $500 payment per child.
