A spike in coronavirus cases in Tarrant County and Fort Worth has pushed infections past the 10,000 mark; there have been 218 deaths countywide. Public health officials are warning about a substantial viral spread over the next few weeks.

It’s time for everyone to Mask Up! to protect those we love and care about, and even for those we don’t know. Wearing a mask makes you a hero. You’re helping prevent the spread of this virus for your friends, co-workers and neighbors.

COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Studies and evidence on infection control report that these droplets usually travel around 6 feet (about two arms’ lengths).

Wear your face covering correctly:

  • Wash your hands before putting on a face covering.
  • Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.
  • Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face.
  • Make sure you can breathe easily.

In addition to wearing a face covering, follow these general recommendations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • If you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms, call your doctor and ask for a COVID-19 test.
  • Stay away from groups or large gatherings of people.
  • Wash your hands frequently and sanitize often.
  • Clean and sanitize highly touched surfaces in your home – it helps reduce the spread of the virus.
  • Work from home whenever possible.
  • Wear a mask. (Have we mentioned that enough?)
