Fort Worth Park & Recreation esports league play begins Monday, Oct. 10.
All community centers are encouraged to join the league, which will be playing Super Smash Brothers on Nintendo Switch. Players aged 5-13 are welcome.
Simply put, esports are video games that are played in an organized, competitive environment. Games can range from popular, team-oriented multiplayer online battle arenas to single-player first-person games, to survival battles, to virtual reconstructions of physical sports.
There will be a beginners/casual league for kids just having fun and a competitive league for serious gamers. The fall season will last six weeks – a four-week regular season and a two-week playoff. The casual league will not have a playoff round.
A champion will be crowned and presented with a trophy at a community center yet to be named. The runner-up will receive a medal.
